Can’t you study without a high school diploma? Yes, at the University of Applied Sciences for Health Professions there are many other admission requirements for a degree in addition to the Matura. For the bachelor’s degree in health and nursing, for example, this is the nursing assistant. With this basic qualification, students only need English at B2 level and can then complete their studies in a shorter way. Another example are graduates of three-year technical schools: they only have to catch up on English at B2 and biology.
Another way to get the degree you want is to take the university entrance qualification exam, which is intended for people who do not have a high school diploma and no relevant prior professional experience. People like Marlene Enzelsberger. She works as a surgical assistant. “In my line of work, I deal with nurses with higher education every day,” she says. “I also wanted to qualify further.” Two evenings a week she completes the preparatory courses for biology and English: “We are very well prepared. Nevertheless, you still have to learn more yourself. That’s stressful next to the work and the courses.” She wants to finish English and biology before the summer semester. She already has ethics.
Since autumn 2021, the university entrance qualification exam can be taken at the University of Applied Sciences for Health Professions. It enables entry into one of the eight bachelor’s degree programs. For the five partial examinations, a written work on a general topic must be written for the German area. An exam must be taken for English, Biology and Mathematics. The conclusion is an oral examination either in the field of ethics in health care or in the field of education, psychology and sociology. You can choose the topic yourself.
