Debate about “compulsory PV” for new buildings in Lengau

In the debate about motions by the Lengauer Greens, according to which only the use of renewable energy sources for energy supply should be permitted in future building projects and a minimum proportion of the roof area must be used for photovoltaics – the request has so far failed at SP and FP, reports now Lengau SP Mayor Erich Rippl to speak. The application of the Greens referred to the zoning. A query to the country’s legal department revealed that such a procedure would not be legally compliant, according to Rippl.

Wood and wind also in focus

According to the Lengauer Grünen, the annual wood growth in the forests in the municipal area is around 40,000 solid cubic metres. If only part of it were used as energy wood, the entire energy consumption of the community could be covered in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way, according to the Lengau Greens.

SP-Rippl points out that the use of the wood is not the responsibility of the municipality, but of course the respective owners. The municipality of Lengau is already trying very hard to use renewable energy sources. “All kindergartens and elementary schools are equipped with PV systems, as has the municipal office recently. An energy community for PV systems is planned for the five fire stations, building yard and community center.”

The companies in the municipal area of Lengau are also committed. “Palfinger already has a 3,000 square meter PV system, and an expansion is planned. Mafi has 1,500 square meters of PV surface area, Schober more than 1,000. Cab builder Lugstein wants to set up a system that will cover 50 percent of its own electricity needs,” according to Mayor Rippl. However, Rippl finds it difficult to get used to the idea of building a wind power plant like the one in neighboring Munderfing. “Using wind power makes sense where there is a lot of wind. Compared to many other regions, our region is not one of them. Attractive feed-in tariffs alone should not be the decisive factor in such projects.”
