Under former Salzburg coach Rose, Dortmund finished the season in second place, eight points behind Bayern Munich. In the Champions League and other cup competitions it was over early.
According to “Sky”, Rose’s predecessor Edin Terzic, who acted as technical director at BVB after Rose’s commitment, will be his successor. Rose’s assistant trainer Alexander Zickler and the two Austrians Rene Maric and athletic trainer Patrick Eibenberger are also leaving Dortmund.
“This day is not easy for any of us, because the mutual respect among each other was, is and remains great,” said BVB Managing Director Hans-Joachim Watzke according to the club’s announcement. “After a season that was unsatisfactory for various reasons, we had to realize that we didn’t get the most out of our opportunities in many areas.”
Disappointing performance in the European Cup
In the Champions League, BVB was eliminated after the preliminary round. In the subsequent qualification for the knockout phase of the Europa League, Dortmund failed at eventual finalists Glasgow Rangers. In the DFB Cup it was over after the round of 16 at FC St. Pauli.
“Despite a difficult season with many uncertainties, I was convinced of our path,” said Rose. “During our conversation I got the impression that the 100% conviction of all those responsible is no longer there. In the end we therefore decided together to end the cooperation.”
