Hernández, 77, is a successful civil engineer who came late to politics as mayor of Bucaramanga (northeast), where he was famous for his works and the carelessness of his personality, which at times became aggressive in the face of harassment by his political opponents.

Despite his age, the former mayor is very active on social media, particularly on TikTokwith fresh and motivating messages always with the fight against corruption as the narrative axis.

According to the survey prepared by the National Consulting Center (CNC), commissioned by the magazine Semana, there would be a technical tie between Gutiérrez (20.8%) and Hernández (19.1%) for second place in the first round of the presidential elections on Sunday 29 in Colombia.

Gustavo Petro is assured of a place in the ballot with 35.8% of the voting intentions.

In the previous measurement, Rodolfo Hernández marked 9.6%, while Gutiérrez was at 23.8% and Petro at 38%.

The CNC survey was carried out between May 13 and 19 with 4,412 people in 104 municipalities in Colombia with a margin of error of 1.5%.

While in the other survey, carried out by the firm Invamer for a group of press media, Hernández cut ground from Gutiérrez, while Petro lost three percentage points, compared to the previous survey.

According to Invamer, the favorite obtained 40.6% of the voting intention, followed by the rightist with 27.1% and the independent with 20.9% very closely.

In the study carried out in April by the same firm, Petro reached 43.6% favorability, Gutiérrez 26.7% and Hernández reached 13.9%.

The striking thing about this poll is that in the event of a ballot, Gustavo Petro would win Gutiérrez with 52.7, who would reach 44.2%. But things would get complicated for the leftist if he competes in the second round with Hernández. According to Invamer, Petro would obtain 50% of the votes compared to 47.4% for Hernández.

The survey was conducted between May 13 and 18, through 2,000 interviews in a large number of Colombian towns and with a 5% margin of error.
