Investigations into suspected abuse of office have now been discontinued, as the “Kleine Zeitung” reported on Friday.
The former minister was targeted in March 2019 when he appointed – or rather wanted to appoint – three army generals. Because the candidates were suitable according to the evaluation committee, but Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen did not sign the certification. And thus blocked the advance of the army personnel.
Kunasek’s successor in the civil service government, Thomas Starlinger, then reversed the appointments – and Kunasek was suspected of having acted improperly. At least that’s how the Public Prosecutor’s Office for Economic and Corruption (WKStA) saw it at times. She initiated investigations against Kunasek.
Now, three years later, these investigations are finally closed. Kunasek, he is FPÖ state party leader and state parliament club chairman in Styria, has been rehabilitated in this matter.
