The wild animal may have felt threatened by the dog of one of the women. The women were able to flee over a bridge, but the ibex did not follow them. One of the tourists was slightly injured, according to the Styrian State Police Department.
The two 32-year-old women had hiked with their dog, a border collie, from the Bärenschützklamm gorge car park in Mixnitz towards Kassahütte just below the entrance to the gorge around 2 p.m. The dog was on a leash and to shorten the leash, the 32-year-old dog owner wrapped it around her waist and secured it with a carabiner.
Attacked the dog with horns
Suddenly the women came across the ibex. When the dog started barking, the ibex attacked the border collie with its horns. Due to the shortened leash, the woman was unable to untie it, which is why she fell to the ground herself. The 32-year-old was also attacked by the ibex and slightly injured.
The hikers then fled down the valley and were finally able to make an emergency call from a bridge over which the ibex did not follow them. The injured 32-year-old was taken care of by the Mixnitz mountain rescue service. Both hikers were then accompanied down into the valley. The injured person did not seek medical treatment. The dog – and apparently also the ibex – were not injured in the incident.
