The affected man is in the hospital with symptoms such as a slight fever and pustules on his face, as the ORF reports. A spokesman for City Councilor for Health Peter Hacker (SP) has confirmed this. Even today it should be clear whether it is actually a monkeypox disease.
The 35-year-old was admitted to the Favoriten clinic on Sunday night. The symptoms are typical, they say. However, the investigation in the laboratory is still pending.
It is also currently being clarified whether monkeypox is a notifiable disease. As reported, Austria is preparing, and contact tracing is also to be installed.
The disease is transmitted through close contacts and is particularly dangerous for children and high-risk patients, as Rainer Gattringer, head of the Institute for Hygiene and Microbiology, Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at the Wels-Grieskirchen Clinic, explained in the OÖN interview.
The article will be updated as more information becomes available.
