The 86-year-old wanted to cross Hausruckstraße with his e-bike at around 3 p.m. at the tennis court in Vöcklabruck when he was hit by the 19-year-old’s car. According to several witnesses, the young driver is said to have driven far too fast despite the 30-speed limit when he turned into the confusing right-hand bend immediately before the cyclist crossing in the direction of Europahof.
Because he got into the oncoming lane and skidded at the speed bump there, he collided with the cyclist who was already on the bike path. The force of the impact threw the 86-year-old against the windshield, dragged him a few meters and came to rest under the car.
He suffered serious injuries and had to be resuscitated at the scene of the accident. Paramedics took the man to the hospital.
