The warm, muggy weather will come to an abrupt end on Monday evening. The Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) has issued a weather warning for the entire federal state: Between Monday 6 p.m. and Tuesday 1 a.m. thunderstorms can be expected throughout Upper Austria. These can be stormy at certain points and bring heavy rain and gusty winds. In individual, stronger thunderstorm cells, hail cannot be ruled out.

mudslides and floods

The first light thunderstorms are possible locally from midday, but these will quickly dissipate. From the afternoon, strong thunderstorms are likely to develop from Switzerland over Vorarlberg, Tyrol and Bavaria. These move north-east and can come down as storms in Salzburg and Upper Austria. First you should reach the Inn and Mühlviertel.

According to ZAMG, small mudslides and locally flooded roads as well as selective flooding cannot be ruled out. Due to gusts of wind, objects can be whirled around, branches break off and occasionally even trees.

hail and strong wind

Private weather observers even warn of large hail with grains up to four centimeters in diameter, hurricane-force gusts of up to 115 km/h and heavy downpours with the risk of flooding. It is recommended to secure loose items and close windows and doors.

Particular caution is required in the mountains, and bodies of water should also be left immediately when a thunderstorm approaches. The thunderstorms are likely to move further to Lower Austria in the first half of the night, but will largely weaken by then.
