Head coach Ludovic Magnin, who saved Vorarlberg from relegation in a dramatic season finale, is moving to FC Lausanne in the second Swiss division at his own request. Altach announced this on Monday. The 43-year-old made use of an opt-out clause in his contract to accept the offer from his home club, which had been relegated from the Super League.
Lausanne pays the SCR a contractually agreed transfer fee, about which it has been agreed not to disclose. Magnin only came to Altach at the beginning of the year and was tasked with the apparent “Mission Impossible” relegation. This was achieved last Friday with a 2-1 home win against WSG Tirol, because at the same time Admira lost 3-1 at LASK and was relegated. Admira coach Andreas Herzog was released from his duties on Monday.
“Bitter Finish”
“Ludovic informed us about his heart’s desire after he had been relegated. Of course we tried to keep him. Unfortunately we didn’t succeed,” said SCR Managing Director Christoph Längle, who described the departure as “bitter”, “because we wanted to go on with him”.
Magnin looked after the Altacher in 14 competitive games as head coach, his team came up with four wins, four draws and six defeats. Similar savior qualities are now expected in his hometown of Lausanne in the Challenge League, but the mission there is promotion.
