One point is enough for the ÖEHV team

Before the final game of the group stage, the ÖEHV team is three points ahead of the British. Because the direct duel decides if there is a tie, Austria must not lose to Great Britain after 60 minutes. All other results: (Loss after overtime, win after overtime, win after 60 minutes) are enough for Roger Bader’s team to stay up in the league. The Austrians have no more ambitions: promotion to the quarter-finals is no longer possible. Sixth place ahead of Norway is still possible.

Proud series against Great Britain

The ÖEHV team has not lost to Great Britain since 1961. This series is to be continued today. In 19 duels so far there have been twelve wins for the Austrians, two draws and five defeats. One of the draws even took place in Linz: in a friendly match on April 6, 1997, the Austrians and the British drew 3:3.

Two anniversaries for the ÖEHV team

In addition to the 20th duel with Great Britain, the ÖEHV team is playing the 100th game under team boss Roger Bader today. The Swiss sees this anniversary as secondary: “100 is a nice number, but it only means something to me if we win.” The team boss sworn his team into the decisive game on the rest day yesterday: “British ice hockey has made great progress. The league is much better than you would think in Austria. They have some good strikers in their ranks and great defenders, although not so much agile and fast, but bring a large physical mass with them. We have to get them moving so that we can use our speed there. Great Britain definitely has its qualities. We know that and we are also well prepared for them. That’s a Team that is on a level with us, Italy and France. But we are the challengers, we come from below and we want to take their place.”

Fan meeting with Vice Mayor of Tampere

A delegation of ice hockey fans from Linz had an appointment with the Deputy Mayor of Tampere, Pekka Salmi, at the weekend. The third largest city in Finland with around 240,000 inhabitants is a twin city of Linz. On the day of Austria’s game against hosts Finland, 18 members of the Black Wings Powerplay Enns fan club presented Salmi with an original Linzer cake from the Jindrak pastry shop.
