Austria took part in the second meeting of the US-led international contact group in support of the Ukrainian armed forces on Monday afternoon. Vienna was represented by an employee of the Ministry of Defense at official level, the Foreign Ministry confirmed.
A total of 47 countries took part in the virtual meeting. The third meeting will take place on June 15 in Brussels on the sidelines of the NATO ministerial meeting, Pentagon chief Austin announced.
The new international contact group to support the Ukrainian armed forces met for the first time at the end of April. As Austin announced at the time, more meetings would be held monthly. The first meeting took place on April 26 at the invitation of Austin at the US Air Force base in Ramstein, Rhineland-Palatinate.
“The Contact Group will be a forum for countries of goodwill to intensify our efforts and coordinate our support and focus on winning today’s battles and the battles to come.” Austin emphasized at the first meeting that it was also about stepping up efforts to provide Ukraine with long-term military support.
