Engerwitzdorf: Even the mayor was the “bouncer” for the old people’s home

The management of the retirement home therefore asked for cooperation with the access controls. Seniors’ Association chairman Josef Schwarz and his members immediately took the initiative and supported the home team for 24 weekends. Mayor Herbert Fürst and Deputy Mayor Manfred Schwarz were also immediately enthusiastic about the idea and supported the entrance control by the day or by the hour. In doing so, they relieved the employees, who could then devote themselves to their actual work: the qualified care and support of the residents under the very difficult conditions and stress.

This visitor management is an important prerequisite for avoiding closures in the retirement home with all its consequences. As a thank you, home director Gerald Schimböck invited the volunteers to the Mirellenstüberl. “The isolation is very bad for people. If we were able to prevent this with our help, we are all the happier,” said Mayor Herbert Fürst.
