Regional developer now wants to further expand broadband

As a project manager for regional development, he is the first point of contact for all Upper Austrian municipalities. For the native of Mühlviertleras Aigen-Schlägl, moving into the private sector with a focus on fiber optic expansion and infrastructure is the next logical step in his career. Johannes Großruck studied political science in Vienna and after successfully completing his studies worked in the IT sector for eight years. He then contributed his knowledge as a consultant for the mobility and infrastructure area at the ÖVP federal party headquarters. After 15 years in the federal capital, he finally returned to the Mühlviertel, where he worked for five years as manager of the Danube-Bohemian Forest climate and energy model region. “Helping to shape and promote innovative topics is something that runs through my CV,” says the 38-year-old. “The current market dynamics in the field of broadband expansion, combined with experience as a regional developer and the economic potential of a private company, can make a big difference,” he says.

“In Johannes Großruck we have found the ideal candidate for our project in Upper Austria. We are united by the premise of developing in partnership with the communities,” says öGIG Managing Director Hartwig Tauber about the new team member. Johannes Großruck lives with his wife and son in Aigen-Schlägl, enjoys playing the guitar and has been involved in community politics and the regional energy cooperative on a voluntary basis for years. In order to make Austria fit for the future as a location, the öGIG is building FTTH networks in rural areas with around one billion euros of equity. Some communities in the Mühlviertel are already working with öGIG to speed up the sluggish expansion of the broadband infrastructure.
