Google Street View is 15 years old and now has more than 220 billion images. Digital walks through public streets have also been possible in Austria since 2018. In the ranking of the most visited countries, the Alpine republic was 35th in the past year, while the top three places went to Indonesia, the USA and Japan, Google announced on Tuesday.
For the most visited cities, Vienna made it to 98th place, while Jakarta and Tokyo were at the top of Street View. In the federal capital itself, Schönbrunn Palace, the Belvedere and the Hofburg are clicked on most often. In the federal states, these were the Red Bull Ring, the stairway to nothingness on the Dachstein and the Krimml Waterfalls. Among the local museums, the Belvedere Gallery, Mozart’s birthplace and the Natural History Museum made it onto the podium.
Three places in particular have aroused the interest of users worldwide. The 154-storey tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa in the United Arab Emirates, the Eiffel Tower in France and the Taj Mahal in India were the most frequently used by users with Street View.

With so many countries, places and attractions that can be visited virtually, certain places have particularly piqued the interest of users over the past year. In a country comparison, users were particularly interested in Indonesia: no country recorded more hits on Street View. Austria made it to a good 35th place in the ranking. For comparison: Germany is in 19th place, Switzerland is in 37th place.
