Depp’s trial against ex-wife Heard in final phase

The “Aquaman” actress’ legal team concluded the argument Tuesday in court for the US district of Fairfax, Virginia. Witnesses who should testify for Depp were still expected on Wednesday. According to media reports, Depp’s former girlfriend, British model Kate Moss (48), is to be interviewed via video link. Closing arguments are expected on Friday, after which the case will go to the jury. Observers expect that Moss will defend the actor against allegations of violence. In early May, Heard referred to an alleged incident in which Depp attacked model Moss on a staircase in her description of a violent argument in her relationship with Depp. Moss is said to deny this.

In his civil lawsuit, Depp alleges that his ex-wife made false statements in a 2018 op-ed about domestic violence published by the Washington Post. This damaged his reputation. Depp is suing for around 50 million dollars (a good 46 million euros) in damages for defamation, Heard has filed a counterclaim for 100 million dollars.

Heard had repeatedly accused her former husband of violent behavior on the witness stand. In his own four-day statement, the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star under oath denied ever hitting Heard.

Depp and Heard met while filming The Rum Diary in 2009. The two married in 2015, but after 15 months of marriage, the actress filed for divorce.
