This tower towers over everything in Obernberg

The castle area in Obernberg is one of the most beautiful places in the Innviertel. The view from the plateau around 30 meters above the Inn offers a magnificent view of the country on both sides of the Inn. The new observation tower increases the visitor’s perspective by another 26 metres. From there, on clear days, the view extends to the Bohemian Forest, to Salzburg and to the Berchtesgadener Land and to the Dead Mountains. A total of 149 steps lead up to the tower – a project funded by the LEADER region “Mitten im Innviertel”.

The tower provides its own electricity

Access to the tower is at ground level, and the lift is also accessible for the disabled (Eurokey) and can be reached without steps or thresholds. According to the market town of Obernberg, the entire power requirement of the tower is covered by a modern photovoltaic system, which also supplies electricity for the seminar house. “The tower stands for emission-free energy generation and, with a little imagination, not only points upwards but also downwards,” says Mayor Martin Bruckbauer, referring to the geothermal system that supplies Obernberg with thermal heat. This makes it a kind of “environmental model community,” according to the mayor.
