Courageous witnesses prevented murder in Linz

A 52-year-old Syrian national from Linz tried to kill his wife with a Stanley knife shortly before 7 p.m. on May 23, 2022. He stabbed the 41-year-old twice in the neck after a relationship dispute over alleged social media messages that she is said to have written with a man from Vienna. After his wife fell to the ground immediately after the second stab, he inflicted several more lacerations on her head. A witness intervened courageously, first pulling the suspect away from the victim. When he broke free and started to attack the victim again, she kicked him in the back, preventing another attack.

Another witness stopped with the car and also tried to pull the accused off the victim and helped protect the victim. The 52-year-old approached him with his blade raised and threatened him dangerously. A passing doctor and his wife immediately tried to access the victim’s veins and provided first aid. The arrest of the 52-year-old was carried out by forces of the Upper Austrian Rapid Intervention Group in cooperation with Linz police officers, the accused did not resist. The 41-year-old was able to testify that she was certain that her husband would have killed her. She was taken to a hospital with serious injuries accompanied by the emergency doctor and immediately operated on. The 52-year-old stated that he had a blackout. He was taken to the Linz prison by order of the public prosecutor’s office.
