Range Rover Sport: The SUV is noble, the technology is state-of-the-art

The new Range Rover Sport does not make its ancestors look old. This phenomenon has a long tradition in the British. And yet the SUV has a wonderfully refreshed design. The front is strikingly reminiscent of its big brother, the Range Rover, the sides are more tapered and at the rear the continuous strip of lights and the more concise apron are striking. In short: the SUV looks classy and at the same time does not deny its ancestors.

Stiffer platform

Built on the 35 percent stiffer MLA-Flex platform (Flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture), the British say the SUV should have an unprecedented level of dynamics.

The automatic air suspension (Dynamic Air Suspension) contributes to the comfort and sportiness. The air pressure varies depending on the requirement. Data from the navigation system provide the basis for these settings. For example, the damping is automatically tightened before winding sections.

The adaptive chassis (Adaptive Dynamics 2) takes care of the rest, which checks the ground 500 times per second and adjusts the two-valve shock absorbers as best as possible.

For the first time, the British are sending the sport into nature with all-wheel steering. The electrically operated rear wheels can turn up to a steering angle of 7.3 degrees. The SUV thus achieves a turning circle like a compact model. The all-wheel steering, the new roll stabilization and the electronic locking differential are installed as standard in the P510e and P530 V8, and these technologies will follow for the other engines in 2023.

The newly developed seats offer 22-way adjustment, the 29 loudspeakers generate up to 1430 watts and 63 electronic modules and control units are updated “over the air”. The central touchscreen measures 13.1 inches, the instrument display 13.7 inches. In addition to Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s CarPlay and Android Auto, both wireless, are also included.

Plug-in hybrid with 510 hp

The plug-in hybrid P510e generates a system output of 375 kW (510 hp) and can cover up to 113 kilometers on electric power. The lithium-ion battery stores 38.1 kWh. The Brit needs 5.4 seconds for the zero to 100 km/h sprint. For pure petrol heads, Range Rover traditionally uses a V8. The 530 hp twin turbo sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The range of engines is supplemented by the three mild hybrid diesels D250, D300 and D350, the two mild hybrid petrol engines P360 and P400 and the plug-in hybrid 440e.

The price of the sport starts at 101,042 euros (P440e S) or 109,099 euros (D250 SE). (Heb)
