The police found him there, and an alcohol test carried out on site showed a value of 1.4 per mille. Officials were alerted by witnesses.
The evening before, the 27-year-old had celebrated with friends in Bad Goisern and then brought one of the party guests home in his car. On the way back, the drunk driver left the road after a curve in the Gosau municipality and raced about 50 meters through a forest. Shortly before a stream, the car crashed head-on into a tree.
The injured driver was able to get out of the badly damaged vehicle and walked to his apartment, where the police finally found him and questioned him about the accident. The fire brigade had to use a crane to salvage the accident vehicle. The victim was taken to the Bad Ischl hospital with injuries of an unspecified degree.
