Diocesan Solidarity Prize for Roman Rubasch

Diocesan Solidarity Prize for Roman Rubasch

A total of ten winners were honored in five categories. In his pastoral commitment, Rubasch shows what is needed in a lively community and an active welcoming culture: people who lend a hand and, as he himself puts it, “do what is necessary”. He is largely responsible for ensuring that living together in solidarity is possible in the parish of Wolfern. As a mediator, he mediates between polarizing currents with a great deal of patience and empathy.

“Doing what is necessary” is what Roman Rubasch has lived since 2015 in accompanying refugees and, despite a few setbacks in the asylum procedure, has given them constant support in looking for a place to live and work, learning the language and obtaining a driver’s license. A meeting café he co-founded enabled many people to come into contact with one another.
