The weather gods were kind to the people of Wels that evening, because it rained cats and dogs until late afternoon, but just in time for the opening of the first long night of choirs in the country on Wednesday at 7 p.m., it was dry and lasted until the end of the big final act.
26 choirs gave 43 small concerts every half hour. It was sung at nine locations in the center of Wels, including in partly hidden and idyllic courtyards such as the granary, the Haas-Hof, the Schiesserhof and the Arkadenhof, which became famous through the Welser Arcade Culture Summer. But the town parish church, the castle courtyard, the Minorite monastery and the town square were also staged sonorous.
The 600 actors clearly enjoyed what they were doing. The audience’s response inspired the choirs and gave the listeners goosebumps.
“It was the goal to offer a low-threshold cultural offer for everyone and to present our guests from outside the beautiful sides of Wels. We succeeded in that excellently,” says organizer Peter Jungreithmair from Wels Marketing & Touristik GmbH. The Long Night of Choirs should continue to take place in Wels and become established over the next few years. (fam)
