The document requires that “if at the end of 15 days there is no progress or in case of failure in its mission, a deep purge be ordered in the police ranks starting with the commissioners and deputy commissioners of the department of Amambay“, whose capital is Pedro Juan Caballero.
The text also claims that the Justice and the Public Ministry “urgently arbitrate the necessary means that serve to investigate and clarify the cowardly attack.”
For the author of the initiative, Salyn Buzarquis, the Senate’s statement is “a way of raising the voice” about what happened, according to the Paraguayan newspaper Última Hora.
“The Acevedo family has been denouncing organized crime for at least a decade and was never protected by the State Paraguayan. Everyone will remember when former Governor and former Senator Robert Acevedo was miraculously saved,” he noted.
Senator Desirée Masi, of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), questioned the actions of judges and prosecutors who do not do their job and neglect important investigations such as the deaths of members of the Acevedo family, who at the time denounced various facts that bind the security forces.
