The mastermind behind the Ibiza video was sentenced to three and a half years in prison at the end of March. The judgment is not final. The public prosecutor’s office in Vienna confirmed on Friday at APA’s request a report by the right-wing online medium “eXXpress” that Hessenthaler was being investigated again.
In the first trial, the 41-year-old was found guilty of dealing in cocaine and of accepting, passing on or possessing false or forged specially protected documents and forgery.
Hessenthaler produced the video, which shows former FPÖ boss and Vice Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache and FPÖ club chairman Johann Gudenus in a villa on Ibiza in conversation with an alleged oligarch’s niece. After the recordings were published in May 2019, not only did Strache and Gudenus lose their offices, but the turquoise-blue coalition also broke. The result was a new election.
