According to data from EU-Representatives want to impose an embargo on oil deliveries by ship, but exclude imports via pipelines. An agreement could be reached by the ambassadors of the EU-States to be scored in Brussels on Sunday.
That could be agreed to by leaders at the May 30-31 special summit, one of the officials said. “The idea is to split an oil embargo into pipeline and sea supplies,” another insider said. “The pipeline would be sidelined for a period of time to organize a replacement.” The background is, for example, that Greek tankers are delivering oil from Russia to other countries such as China. Another idea is to make such deliveries impossible, for example by massively increasing insurance premiums for ships.
In the federal government it was said on Wednesday that one does not expect that on the EU-The sixth sanctions package will be discussed at a special summit. Hungary’s opposition to the oil sanctions – and the reluctance of a handful of other countries – has so far prompted the implementation of a sixth package of sanctions of the 27th EU-Members delayed against Russia because of its invasion of Ukraine. Hungary had said around 750 million euros in short-term investments were needed to modernize refineries and expand a pipeline carrying oil from Croatia.
