Swans have their backs to the wall in the final series: “Chance is 1:99”

The clear favorites from Vienna favorites made it 2-0 on Thursday evening – as reported yesterday in the OÖN sports section – and have the opportunity today in front of their own audience (7 p.m., Hallmann Dome, live on TV on Sky) to win the second championship title in club history after 2013.

But anyone who knows the Swans also knows about their fighting spirit. A lot is still possible even away from home – so much for wishful thinking. Gmunden’s chief financial officer Harald Stelzer puts the hopes of the tireless optimists into perspective a bit: “Our top performers are currently not at the peak of their potential. However, we can play easily in the third match. Maybe it’ll work then. We’ll see. But we don’t need to talk: the Viennese are simply a class better. Because of their high quality, they really haven’t lost anything in the Austrian league. They defend very well and robbed us of all our strengths in the first two games. And the fact that we’re not in good form at the moment is also an added factor .”

The chances of being able to defend the championship title they won last year thanks to a 3-1 win against Kapfenberg in the final series are just 1:99 for the Swans, says Stelzer.

The Gmunden Swans were still a complete success, albeit in a different category: Before the game on Thursday evening, captain Daniel Friedrich was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the win2day Basketball Superliga. This means that the guard is also the Most Valuable Austrian Player (MVAP).
