In a game in which the guests initially dominated and were also in the lead from the 19th minute, the St. Martin team proved that fighting spirit and commitment pay off. First Manuel Schmidl hit the side netting, in the 52nd minute Manuel Pichler slammed the ball onto the crossbar, before coach Dominik Nimmervoll’s team rewarded themselves for a well-played second half in the 84th minute: Martin headed in after a free kick by Martin Lindak Dudak to equalize. In injury time, Lindak even had the winning goal on his feet, but his shot just missed the goal.
In the extra time, the Mühlviertler appeared much more self-confident than the guests from Oedt. In the 96th minute, Manuel Pichler scored to make it 2-1, and in the 101st minute Martin Lindak, after an ideal assist from Manuel Pichler, managed a lob worth seeing to make it 3-1. Marco Weber’s goal in the 109th minute was only a cosmetic result, before all dams broke after the final whistle and the cup-winning team celebrated frenetically. A celebration that lasted until the wee hours of the morning for some.
“Yesterday was a really big day for our club,” said chairman Michael Pammer yesterday at noon with a slightly damaged voice in the OÖN interview. “It was a cup hit, as it is in the book. A football festival that you only rarely experience. Thanks to the association, which organized this final in a really great way.”
As a reward for what is probably the greatest success in the club’s history, St. Martin will receive a starting place in the first round of the Uniqa ÖFB Cup in the 2022/23 season. This means that another football treat is guaranteed in the Aubach Stadium in a few weeks.
