One result of this is the deployment of “scooter sheriffs”, and the establishment of further no-parking zones and mandatory parking areas (e.g. in the vicinity of old people’s homes) are also an issue.
Gerhard Hojas from the freiraum-europa association is now speaking up about the cause, he fears that the needs of disabled people will again be forgotten in the current debate. In his experience, the code of conduct agreed with the providers has failed in its current form. Hojas, himself severely visually impaired, points out that wildly parked e-scooters are a major source of danger for people with disabilities. In Hoja’s opinion, it would be important, for example, that entrances and exits to stairs or escalators in public spaces (union crossings, etc.) and areas of tactile guidance systems belong to those zones where parking restrictions apply.
