The Hague-Lies communities are moving closer together thanks to the new cycle path

“Through this project, we went from being more distant communities to real neighbors without any particular points of contact,” say Konrad Binder, Mayor of Haag am Hausruck, and his counterpart Andreas Obermayr from Neukirchen near Lambach. Last Sunday, May 22nd, the first big event took place on the new “Haager Lies reloaded footpath and cycle path” with the family cycle path and the celebrations continued into the evening hours.

More than a thousand hikers and cyclists were out and about along the route of the former “Haager Lies” route on Sunday: Creative stations for children, morning pints and music – there was something for everyone this weekend, say the organizers.

For 108 years, the railway called “Haager Lies” ran through the orchard meadowland, today information boards along the cycle path provide information about the history of the railway. For months now, cyclists and hikers have been populating the approximately 22-kilometer path, which will in future connect the six Hague-Lies communities of Haag am Hausruck, Weibern, Gaspoltshofen, Bachmanning, Aichkirchen and Neukirchen even more closely.

Some catering establishments have already settled there, “even rest areas and playgrounds were designed by regional artists with former utensils of the railway line – including bus shelters and rails,” says Andreas Pangerl from tourism marketing.

Test: Bike The Lies

And next Sunday, May 29, the new cycle path at the Haager Lies can prove itself again: “Bike The Lies” involves a 21.8-kilometer time trial on the former railway line from Neukirchen near Lambach to Haag am Hausruck . Either as an individual driver or in a team of three – everyone can try to get the premiere victory on this route on this day. The starting places are limited due to the time window: 120 individual starters (racing and time trial bikes) and 30 teams of three can take part in the bike race.

With the starting signal at 10 a.m. in Neukirchen, the cycling club Weibern (RFV) sends the racing and time trial bikes down the starting ramp every minute.
