Glasner’s return to Upper Austria: “The wild celebrations are over”

“The wild celebrations are over,” says Oliver Glasner shortly after landing from his private family vacation with his wife Bettina, with a smile on his face. His huge success, the final victory in the Europa League with the German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt against Glasgow Rangers, was omnipresent even during the somewhat quieter stay in Crete: “Everyone recognized me and wanted to take a photo. You can see how important this is success in Europe too. I will never forget the pictures of the motorcade in Frankfurt in front of 200,000 fans and crying supporters who were allowed to touch the European Cup. Making people so happy is the greatest recognition for me.”

The triumph is also special for Upper Austria: On his arrival home, the 47-year-old was presented with a present on the tarmac at Linz-Hörsching Airport by a delegation led by Economics and Sports Councilor Markus Achleitner this Saturday morning. “Oliver Glasner is a real ambassador for Upper Austria. He’s always stayed the same, isn’t someone who takes off when he’s successful. He embodies a real Upper Austrian: working well and always with both feet on the ground.”

Glasner likes to play the ball back: “Upper Austria is my home, I like being here. Unfortunately, it was a little less recently due to the many European Cup trips.” That should change at least in the coming days. Today we’re going to his home town of Riedau, where the successful coach will probably also want to pay a visit to the local lower house club SV Riedau (1st class Northwest) tomorrow: “One of my sons plays for Riedau, tomorrow they will be the first to meet the second Natternbach.”

Frankfurt resides in Windischgarsten

And during the summer break, the Frankfurt coach is going back to Upper Austria – even with his whole team: Eintracht will hold their training camp in Windischgarsten. “The Germans are really looking forward to it, they’re all very enthusiastic about the mountains,” says Glasner.

He is already looking to the future: “I’ll try to process everything. In the new season we want to attack again: in the Champions League.”

His team has already proven this season – including progressing against Barcelona – that they don’t have to be afraid of any opponent. One game in particular strengthened Glasner’s faith in his team: “The win in Munich against Bayern in the fall. That’s when we saw for the first time: If we implement everything and win in Munich, we can beat any team. There’s faith in ours own strength grown.”
