Almost ten minutes before the scheduled start time on Sunday, 3:00 p.m., it started to rain. After a few minutes behind the safety car, which was initially only supposed to lead the formation lap, the session was broken off with red flags.
The cars lined up in the pit lane and were covered by umbrellas and tents. The weather radar meanwhile announced even more rain. “It’s raining like crazy,” said Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc. The next attempt followed at 4:05 p.m. behind the safety car. After two laps, which already counted towards the official number of laps, Leclerc led a rolling start and opened race mode on the wet track.
