Many satisfied faces at the Linz Triathlon

The Linz Triathlon had a break for three years due to the corona, last weekend the popular format, organized by TriRun Linz and the Upper Austrian universities of applied sciences, celebrated its comeback. Around 800 participants from Germany and abroad took part in sporting activities at Lake Plesching on Friday and Saturday – children and adults alike.

Cindy Friebel (4:24 hours) and Peter Müllner (3:52) won the half-iron distance (1.9 km swimming, 84 km cycling and 21 km running). And like at the last Linz Triathlon 2019, Susanne Aumair and Andreas Silberbauer were among the winners this time (over the sprint and Olympic distances). It was also exciting in the men’s sprint competition, where 54-year-old Gerald Will fought a duel against 20-year-old Sebastian Fuchs. Fuchs finally got the victory on the running track.

Sport as a “joint experience”

For Peter Weinzierl, OC boss of “TriRun”, the rerun was a complete success. “The feedback was positive, the athletes very satisfied.” The premiere of the new “Aquabike” competition was also a success. Here, after 1.9 kilometers of swimming and 82 kilometers of cycling, the participants were spared the need to run – except for the distance of 400 meters from the transition area to the finish line.

Weinzierl is particularly pleased that the joy of sport and the communal experience as usual from before Corona were possible again. Around 800 participants are a good sign for the future for a mass sport format in times of the strict Corona rules, thanks go to all participants for their loyalty. In 2019, around 1100 participants were last counted.

After the Linz triathlon is practically before the next one – or as it says on the homepage: “See you again at the end of May / beginning of June 2023!”
