Major alarm in the Mühlviertel: fire broke out in the roof structure

A 25-year-old heard a loud crackle in the house shortly before midnight. Together with her 27-year-old boyfriend, she tried to find out the source. The two finally discovered a fire on the attic of the family home.

The 27-year-old and the 59-year-old father of the young woman tried to contain the fire with fire extinguishers, but this was unsuccessful. The 25-year-old finally alerted the fire brigade. A two-kilometre-long fire-fighting water pipe was needed in order to have sufficient water available at the fire site. A total of ten fire departments with a good 150 men quickly brought the extensive fire in the attic under control and prevented it from spreading to the entire house.

However, it was difficult to extinguish the numerous embers in the insulating wool under the roof tiles. The fire brigade’s operations management therefore used a drone with a thermal imaging camera to help locate the embers from the air. After about three hours, the majority of the emergency services were able to leave.
