Just one and a half weeks after the successful end of the season with the 2-1 home win against St. Pölten, SK Forward Steyr is in the middle of a personnel change. Only eleven players from this year’s squad are currently under contract. While the defensive with the new goalkeeper trio and six defenders is already largely in place, there is still a lot of action to be taken in attack by the red and white team.
“We will not live beyond our means in the coming season either and will try to get by with a budget of 1.3 to 1.4 million euros,” says Vice President Michael Obermair. “But as we showed in the spring, fortunately it’s not just about money if you’re successful in football.” The goal is to hire young, hungry players from Austria who can develop further at Vorwarts. “And sometimes we will work with cooperation players again.”
After the departure of Can Alak, Kevin Brandstätter, Pascal Fischer, Michael Halbartschlager, Christopher Kröhn, Michael Martin, Luca Mayr-Fälten, Paul Sahanek, Julian Turi and the goalkeeper duo Bernhard Staudinger and Thomas Turner, the forward eleven will be in the summer show a completely new face. At least six players are still missing from the planned squad size of 18 field players plus three goalkeepers. In addition, the further sporting future of Christoph Freitag, who did not play a single game in the spring, is unclear.
With the signing of Dragan Marceta and the extension of the contract with Michael Lageder, sporting director Jürgen Tröscher has now added two more pieces to the puzzle in coach Daniel Madlener’s ensemble.
Two seasons ago, Marceta already completed 1726 minutes in the forward dress as a loan player. This season, the 22-year-old central defender became champion with Lustenau, but still decided to move to Steyr. The Vorarlberger signed for two years.
With 156 appearances, Lageder has the most of all active red-whites. The 31-year-old from Steyr signed for another year.
