Neighbor discovered child
The knife attack took place around 9:30 a.m. in an apartment on Sackstrasse. She was noticed by the resident of the neighboring apartment after the child’s mother rang the doorbell with bloodstained hands and asked to be allowed to call her mother in Slovakia. The quick-witted woman looked in the 42-year-old’s apartment and came across the seriously injured child, said Heimo Kohlbacher from the Styrian state police headquarters to the APA.
Officers from the Rapid Response Task Force arrested the suspected woman, who herself had lacerated her hand, at the scene of the crime. According to initial police findings, the child may have suffered stab wounds and cuts in the upper body. Details were not yet known.
The woman was arrested without resistance, police said. According to initial investigations, she may have been alone with the child in the apartment on Tuesday morning, but she may have a partner. In the afternoon, mother and child received medical care in hospitals.
