On the international stage, soccer fans were moved at the end of May 2002 by the start of the World Cup in South Korea and Japan. In Upper Austria, the fans of SV Pasching had reason to be happy: under coach Georg Zellhofer, the club won the championship title in the second division and was promoted to the Bundesliga.
In a special issue on the “Miracle of Pasching”, the OÖ Nachrichten wrote at the time: “They have achieved their goal, even if they lost the last game in the 1st division against Mattersburg 1-2. The footballers of SV Pasching were promoted to the Bundesliga and thus set new standards. Never before had a team made it through from the regional to the Bundesliga.”
There were some successes for the Paschinger in the Bundesliga – including third place in the table in 2006. The following year the club became SK Austria Kärnten, which had to file for bankruptcy in 2010.
