Type 2 diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease that affects around 700,000 people in Austria. The disease is characterized by an elevated level of sugar in the blood. The reason for this is usually a combination of hereditary predisposition, unhealthy diet and lack of exercise, which subsequently leads to insulin resistance.
“Therapy Active” is an Austria-wide, targeted care and therapy program for type 2 diabetics – and is best accepted in Upper Austria. In 2020, 34.8 percent of all affected patients took part, in Tyrol it was only around 19.5 percent in the same period.

“In Upper Austria we work every day to ensure that health care and preventive health care remain good and strong. These figures show that the care in this area is very good and that this offer is well and widely accepted by patients. Thank you with the resident doctors for their contribution,” says Health Minister Christine Haberlander (VP).
