Police directors fired for the murder of a man asphyxiated with gas

The Official Gazette of the Union published on Tuesday the resolution that dismissed the executive director and the intelligence director of the Highway Police, Jean Coelho and Alan da Motta respectively.

The measure was implemented six days after Highway Police officers detained Sergipenortheastern state, the motorcyclist Genivaldo Santos who, after being immobilized, was placed in the trunk of a patrol car at which they threw tear gas.

The arrest and confinement of Santos was recorded by several videos that had a wide impact on social networks in Brazil.

President, Jair Bolsonarodeclared this Monday that “we cannot generalize because the PRF (Road Police) does an exceptional job.”

“The Justice is going to investigate this case, surely justice will be done but without exaggerating, we regret what happened” said Bolsonaro and he criticized the coverage given by the media that “are always on the side of the bandits”.

On the other hand, the defense of Santos’ relatives criticized the “torture” to which the motorcyclist was subjected in a “gas chamber” inside the police vehicle and demanded that the agents involved be arrested.
