A collection of Late Period painted intact wooden coffins with mummies inside burial pits was also unearthed along with amulets, wooden boxes and statues with gilt faces.
In addition, a statue painted by a distinguished duo depicting the deities Isis and Nephthys mourning the dead was also found.
The mission was headed by Mostafa Waziri, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities. Waziri explains that a papyrus written in hieroglyphics was found during excavations inside one of the coffins and may contain verses from the Book of the Dead, adding that was transferred to the laboratory of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir to study and discover what it contains.

A collection of cosmetics, including combs, eyeliners, seed containers, bracelets, earrings and necklaces, was also found, along with some tools used in daily life, reports Ahram Online.
Waziri said that the coffins will be transferred to the soon-to-open Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) to be among the exhibits in the main halls of the museum, reports the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
This archaeological mission has been working in this area in the Saqqara necropolis since 2018 and has made several discoveries so far, including collections of artifacts, coffins, and human and animal mummies.
