Terrible scenes took place on Monday evening in Reutte in Tyrol. An 18-year-old is said to have stabbed his 17-year-old girlfriend to death and then committed suicide. The crime scene is a parking lot below the 114 meter high pedestrian suspension bridge that runs over the Fernpass road. There, a passer-by had to watch around 8:30 p.m. as a young man deliberately jumped to his death. The 18-year-old had previously been seen pacing back and forth on the bridge alone.
The 18-year-old’s car was in the parking lot. In it, the police finally discovered the body of his 17-year-old girlfriend. The detective assumes murder and suicide. The autopsy was still ongoing on Tuesday.
However, it was assumed that she had been killed with multiple stab wounds in the chest by her boyfriend, a German by birth. A folding knife was found in the car. According to initial investigations, the young woman wanted to separate from the German. The motive for the murder may have been jealousy. Accordingly, the two young people lived in the Imst district and had been a couple for a year, but did not live together. According to the police, both had a job.
The criminalists assume that the boy picked the girl up from work by car between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. They then drove from Imst over the Fern Pass to Reutte. Depending on the traffic, the journey takes about an hour, a spokeswoman for the Tyrolean State Criminal Police Office estimated. What exactly happened in those evening hours must now be determined, the Tyrolean police said. It is believed that there was an argument in the car. Yesterday people from the environment were interviewed.
According to the APA census, the fatal attack on the 17-year-old is the seventh completed suspected murder of a woman this year, committed by the (ex-)partner. The first femicide happened in January in Weißkirchen im Attergau, where a man is said to have shot his wife at the dining table. Klaudia Frieben, Chairwoman of the Austrian Women’s Association, criticizes the “political indifference”: “The government is obviously not concerned that an underage girl was murdered.”
