Josef Mair honored as Economic Councilor

In recognition of his outstanding achievements in agriculture, Josef Mair from Waizenkirchen has now been awarded the professional title “Economic Officer”. At a ceremony in the Ministry of Agriculture, the Minister of Agriculture Elisabeth Köstinger (VP), who has since resigned, presented him with a certificate. “I was a bit surprised at first, but of course I’m very happy,” says Mair.

In the 1990s, the cattle breeder “fell into” the functionary role by accident, as he puts it. “The Simmental Breeding Association founded a young breeders’ club and was looking for members. I actually only wanted to go to the information event and came home as district chairman,” says the 55-year-old. When he was then asked to stand for office in the following board elections, Mair accepted.

The list of functions Mair has held is long. He was and is a member of various clubs, working groups and associations. In 2014 he was involved in founding the State Control Association Austria.

He is particularly proud of the preservation of the Waizenkirchen Agricultural School, which had to fear for its existence in the early 2000s. “We were convinced of the value of the school and we were right,” he says.

As a functionary, he became active again and again, “because I quickly realized how important it is to get involved. If we farmers want to continue to exist, it is important that we represent our interests in politics, but also in administration ” says Mair.
