An unknown person who, under the influence of drugs, had harassed children in the school building and asked them to go with him: This incident, which took place on Tuesday at the Braunau high school, still occupied the students and their parents. “The excitement among the students is still correspondingly high today,” said director Sebastian Plank yesterday. A school psychologist and specially trained police officers should now help the children to process what happened.
It was just before 1 p.m. when the 27-year-old independently blocked the way of students in the first and second grades. Because of his drug use, he spoke incoherent sentences, said he was a magician and asked the children to go to his apartment with him, district inspector Philipp Gerner said on Wednesday. There he promised sweets to the ten and eleven year olds. He is said to have grabbed one or two students who wanted to go to the toilet during class and tried to pull them in there.
But nobody was injured. Due to his drug use, the unemployed 27-year-old was already known to the office and this time “neither time nor place was oriented”.
The students concerned reported the attacks to their teachers, who in turn informed the police. Due to the good description of the person, the suspect, who fled on foot, was arrested shortly afterwards in a nearby courtyard. The locals fought back and injured a police officer. He had followed “inner voices”, said the latter when questioned. He was taken to a psychiatric hospital ward.
