Hubers Landhendl cheated by 2.3 million euros? Up to ten years imprisonment

“Has Huber’s country hendl been cheated out of more than 2.3 million euros?” was the exclusive headline in the Upper Austrian News as early as April 13, 2022. This question is now to be answered on Wednesday, June 8th, at the first main hearing in the regional court in Ried.

According to the indictment by the Ried public prosecutor’s office, the accused, who as managing director and sole shareholder of a Slovenian company, in numerous attacks from the beginning of 2017 to November 2020, defrauded those responsible at Hubers Landhendl GmbH, based in Pfaffstätt, Braunau district.

The alleged damage amounts to 2.358 million euros. The scam: Fake invoices and false delivery notes are said to have been sent again and again. The injured company should therefore only have compared the wrong delivery notes with the wrong invoices submitted by the accused. However, it may not have been checked whether the corresponding services (including the delivery of empty containers and pallets) were also provided for the invoices issued.

It was only after around four years that the alleged actions of the accused, for whom the presumption of innocence applies, were discovered by an employee of the Hubers Landhendl company and payments to the entrepreneur from Slovenia were stopped. He is said to have been so bold as to have hired a law firm to collect his “claims”. If the jury convicts, the suspect faces a hefty fine for serious fraud. The range of penalties is one to ten years.

The accused has not yet commented on the serious allegations.
