The groundbreaking ceremony took place in September 2021, and since March 2022 the entire road surface has been replaced and the roadway widened under total closure. On Wednesday, the B156 was reopened to traffic in St. Georgen am Fillmannsbach. The federal road was expanded between the Binderberger company and the village of Angern. The road structure was renewed and widened, new markings and traffic signs were installed, and an accompanying footpath and cycle path were built.
The expansion of the B156 in this area was financed from the Upper Austria Plan, the economic stimulus program of the state of Upper Austria. “With the existing and safety expansion of the B156 Pommer Nord, we have made another section of this economically very important traffic artery between Braunau and Salzburg safe and fit for the future. The new footpath and cycle path makes cycling trips easier, especially for families,” says State Councilor for Infrastructure Günther Steinkellner.
The dry weather in spring played into the hands of construction progress and the total closure also had an effect. The main work could therefore be completed safely, in high quality and still around four weeks earlier than planned.
In the coming weeks, remaining work will be carried out, such as installing missing traffic signs and greening the open areas with natural meadow seeds. The experienced teams from the road maintenance departments in Ostermiething and Uttendorf made an important contribution to the success and, by setting up the detour routes, ensured that road users reached their destination safely.
