Diocesan reform: Seven “services” replace offices

For several months now, the new “super parishes” have been forming in Upper Austria, which were decided upon in the major parish structural reform. At the same time, the Diocese of Linz is reorganizing its own administration, a first result was presented yesterday at a media reception by the bishop. The new parishes should be given the best possible support through clear structures.

There the new heads of the seven “areas” were presented, which will replace the previous offices. According to the diocese, the aim is to support pastoral care and church commitment in clear structures.

The main features of the changes were decided after a two-year analysis and conception phase by the extended consistory of the diocese. The consistory is the bishop’s highest advisory body for important questions.

“We are trying to set up our ‘central unit’ in such a way that working together can be successful. The parish structural reform should also be reflected in a certain way at the diocesan level,” said Vicar General Severin Lederhilger. The concept was developed by a smaller team under his direction. It is an “intermediate step,” said Lederhilger. The conversion should provide the diocesan authorities with optimal support. For this purpose, the responsibilities would be clearly and unambiguously structured.

In the future, each of the seven areas will be headed by a manager – four women and three men.
