For the resumption of the Türkengraben stop and a higher priority for local public transport in traffic planning, there was a joint demonstration by the SPÖ and the green Urfahr environment on Thursday evening on the B126.
In order to enable sustainable mobility for all people, there should be no consideration of road, public transport or bicycle traffic, said Alois Stöger, chairman of the SPÖ Urfahr-Umwelt: “Rather, we need joint, sustainable traffic planning. It must not be the case that millions are put into the street and projects for public transport and cycle paths are postponed.” The relationship between price, time required and offer must be right. Then public transport would also be well accepted. The closure of stops does not improve this.
The participants underlined this statement “We think it’s a pity that no solution was found for the bus stop as part of the current road rehabilitation,” said Christian Kremeier, chairman of the SPÖ Altenberg.
In his function as chairman of the transport committee in parliament, Stöger introduced a draft for a federal transport target law that would improve both time and service. So he calls for a basic offer in public transport, in which every community is served between 5 a.m. and midnight at least every half hour in both directions – on weekdays as well as on Sundays and public holidays. “If we also want to grant mobility to future generations, we have to step up our game on the subject of traffic transition, think bigger and implement projects quickly,” concludes Stöger.
