The new cases are well above the average of 2,465 over the past seven days, as are the deaths: the authorities recorded 3.1 corona deaths per day on a seven-day average. A total of 22 deaths have been registered in the past seven days.
As of Friday, there were 36,571 active cases in Austria, 839 more than the day before. According to the Ministry of the Interior and Health, the seven-day incidence was 192.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 4,262,117 cases of SARS-CoV-2 have been detected. Since then, 4,206,881 people have recovered, and 2,366 are considered healthy again within the past 24 hours.
Most infections were discovered in Vienna (1,011), followed by Lower (647) and Upper Austria (478). 277 new cases were reported from Styria, Salzburg recorded 234, Tyrol 199, Carinthia 158, Vorarlberg 138 and Burgenland 69.
R number below critical one
The effective reproduction number went up from the previous week (0.83) but was still below the critical one at 0.93 on Friday, according to the update from experts at the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) and Graz University of Technology. The R number tells how many more people an infected person infects.
In Burgenland, Carinthia, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Styria, Tyrol and Vienna, the effective number of reproductions is less than one. In Salzburg and Vorarlberg it is at one. The number of new cases diagnosed every day is at an increased level in all federal states, the experts noted.
According to this data, the Covid 19 pandemic has now claimed 18,665 deaths in Austria. Since the beginning, 207.9 people per 100,000 inhabitants have died from or with Covid-19.
There were 467 people in the hospital, three more than were reported yesterday. 47 people were cared for in intensive care units. This number has dropped by one person since Thursday and has increased by one patient within a week.
144,246 rapid PCR and antigen tests were registered, of which 120,859 were PCR tests with a positive rate of 2.7 percent. All in all, there are now 242,332,762 corona tests carried out.
3,516 vaccinations were administered on Thursday, including 141 first bites. According to the data from the e-vaccination card, a total of 6,828,962 people have received at least one vaccination. 5,827,549 people and thus 64.9 percent of the people in Austria have valid vaccination protection.
