The vehicle hit a bridge railing and crashed into a creek bed. The driver and his seven fellow passengers were injured in the accident, the police reported. The 26-year-old was transported by helicopter to the Klagenfurt clinic, his colleagues to the Wolfsberg regional hospital by rescue.
At 7:40 p.m., the firefighters drove to an assumed location as part of an exercise on the Gemmersdorfer Landesstraße. It is still under investigation why the driver of the fire engine broke through the bridge railing when turning. Subsequent comrades rescued the injured and provided first aid. The public prosecutor’s office in Klagenfurt had the fire engine secured for assessment by an expert.
