In Schiedlberg (Steyr-Land district), a tree fell on a moving car. The driver was injured and the passenger was unharmed, police said.
The accident happened around 10 p.m. on the L1372. A 40-year-old driver was driving the car in the direction of Sierning, her 42-year-old husband was sitting in the passenger seat when suddenly, due to the severe storm, a tree around 50 centimeters thick fell on the road and hit the car in the area of the hood or windshield met. The car was trapped under the tree, but the two occupants were able to free themselves. The driver was injured and taken to the hospital in Steyr by ambulance. The passenger was uninjured and the vehicle was a total loss.
In addition to this serious traffic accident, the firefighters in Upper Austria were mainly occupied with pumping out cellars and buildings due to the storm from around 8:30 p.m. until just before midnight, and debris flows and fallen trees had to be cleared from the streets.
