“Trailer” moderator Frank Hoffmann died

Thanks to him, a whole generation of Austrians became cinema fans: Now Frank Hoffmann, who informed the ORF audience about current film events with the “Trailer” program for more than two decades, has died at the age of 83. This was announced by his home broadcaster ORF on Saturday. At the same time, the native German was much more than a TV presenter, but over the decades he developed a loyal theater audience in Austria.

Frank Hoffmann was born on July 16, 1938 near Dresden and later completed his acting training at the renowned Otto Falckenberg School in Munich. After stints at several German-language theaters, the young Frank Hoffmann became a member of the Burgtheater ensemble in 1967. The moderation of the cinema show “Trailer” on ORF, which Hoffmann held from 1975 to 1994 with his distinctively soft voice, made him the face that was recognized on the street in Austria. But Hoffmann was also very active after the end of “Trailer” and not only stood on the stage, but also took on directing tasks and was involved in a good cause.
